Family and Kids

Restoring family-friendly features and activities to Boston’s river-front parkland is an important part of the Esplanade Association’s work. Founding members of the association raised the funds needed for construction, in 2001, of the Miriam and Sidney Stoneman Playground. In 2002 we inaugurated the very popular activity program for young children and launched the Kids Fishing Club. And we began a partnership with Community Boating to expand outreach efforts to inner-city children with support including the donation of 12 kayaks to the program.

That same year, members of the association with a passion for sailing decided to revive model yacht racing in the Storrow Lagoon and the Boston Model Sailing Club (BMSC) took off. The BMSC provides model sailboats and volunteers to teach model sailing to members of the public, free of charge.
