The water fountains, trash barrels, and signage in the park are inadequate and should be updated with site-appropriate, attractive amenities.
TEA has received approvals to replace the aging and often broken water fountains, and is currently working with the architects and engineers at Geller Devellis, Inc., on preliminary plans and drawings of the new fountains. Geller Devellis will also be working with the DCR to identify the location of the water lines that feed into the park, and the condition of those lines.
By replacing aging fountains, garbage bins, and other amenities, the park will become more user-friendly, attractive, and safe. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please contact our office at 617.227.0365, or visit our online donation page here.
TEA is working with the DCR to improve water supply and delivery on the Esplanade by raising funds to replace existing water fountains, and supporting the completion of an engineering study of the existing system.
The fountain that has been chosen to replace the aging fountains that are currently found in areas near the Hatch Shell is manufactured by Cantebury Designs. The new fountain is functional, attractive, durable, and low-maintenance. They are appropriate to the park setting and design era (1920's) and when all approvals have been made, the fountains will be installed. These new fountains will also be handicap accesible and child friendly. In some locations the fountains will include a spigot for water bottles and a pet bowl.
